AEE 2019: Alexis Fawx, Part Two

by Rich Moreland, February 2019

This is the second installment of our interview with MILF porn superstar Alexis Fawx.

Once again we thank Star Factory for Alexis’ time.

Variety

How does Alexis feel about cam talent? Is camming a prep for shooting scenes for studio paychecks?

She starts us off with a little personal history. She cammed early on in her career and wanted to get back into it.

“I was working with Bang Bros, so I took a break from shooting all the time and went into camming full-time.” That gave Alexis the opportunity to go to massage school to supplement her education.

She’s never regretted the move.

“Camming’s great, honestly. If you have the extra time [and] want to make some extra money, you can hop online and start making that money from home. It’s so simple.”

Is the cam girl going to become the new porn girl?

“I think what you’re gonna find is the cam girl is gonna dip into shooting because it is gonna help make her name more [recognizable].” Alexis asserts. “I think it’s a good way to get your name out there.”

The popular MILF model talks about her personal situation.

My “private Snapchats and Only Fans,” Alexis says, represent “the wide range of my hustle as a performer, I could make money in so many directions I don’t even have to step my foot on set anymore [and] I love being on set, so don’t get me wrong.”

She brings up what most cam girls will tell you, it’s all about content.

“We’re producing our own content. We’re producing our own Only Fans, our Snapchats, ManyVids and stuff like that.” Alexis reminds us that “all the different cam sites” are available to every girl.

“It’s all related. If you are a performer or a cam girl or anything like that, you should definitely be cross-referencing everything. Having that variety is great.”

Producer and Performer

On the other hand, Alexis warns against putting all those proverbial eggs into one basket, particularly when it comes to social media, a cammer’s life blood. Citing Instagram as an example, Alexis points out that they can block you “and poof it’s gone, you lost your business. You’re off the face of the earth.”

Like any good money manager, Alexis insists on diversification when it comes to online offerings.

Incidentally, making it all work is to a girl’s advantage.

“Doing camming is teaching you how to be a producer [and] that makes you an even better performer.”

Of course, cam girls are communicating with the fans directly and in Alexis’s view, this has benefits for the studios.

“I always tell the producers and directors, look for the cam models, because they’re used to dirty talking and looking into the camera and pretending they’re getting a response back. They’re used to improvisation by themselves.”

The Amateur Stuff

I mention that camming and homemade porn seem to be inseparable. Alexis believes this is a good thing.

“Homemade porn is on the comeback now with private Snapchats and Only Fans. I sit at my house and do content all day. I get online and ask my fans what do you guys wanna see?”

For the most part, she works alone.

That is empowering, actually, and not difficult.

“You just do a bunch of those little videos, you throw it up there. You’re making money left and right.”

In the end, it comes down to the basics. “When you think of it, we’re all shooting our own content,” she says.

If that is true, then is the cam girl an updated version of amateur porn.

Alexis lights up with certainty at the question.

“Yeah! Way more because people are doing boy-girls and girl-girls. What amateur porn does is it gives the average person [the fan] a connection. And so, if people can connect, you can have a sale.”

Finally, I ask about the three-legged-stool of porn and is camming the fourth leg?

Alexis thinks so . . .

“You have shoots, escorting, feature dancing, [and] camming.”

Then she expands the possibilities by including “our private sites and our producing” into the income mix.

And don’t forget to think about convenience . . .

“I mean even some cam sites now are mobile, or can stream from your phone. If you can be mobile, you’re gonna be in everyone’s hand.”

“So, I think you probably have about five legs [on that stool].”

She’s nailed it, I think, and concludes with a positive note that defines the personality of Alexis Fawx.

“Rather than just looking at myself as a pornographer, I look at myself as a brand, a business. I mean turn your passions into businesses [that work] for you.”

AEE 2019: Alexis Fawx, Part One

by Rich Moreland, February 2019

This is the first in a series of interviews from the 2019 Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas.

My thanks to Tanya Tate’s Star Factory PR for scheduling their clients with us. All photos are by Kevin Sayers.

Before every interview I do, there is small talk. While videographer Davyana San Migel and photographer Kevin Sayers were setting up in the press room for our interview with Alexis Fawx, I mentioned flying in from the Washington DC area for the show.

Unexpectedly, Alexis and I discovered we were practically neighbors because Alexis grew up near my home on the Maryland side of the District. She reminisced about playing on the hillsides as a kid and enjoying the laid back life of her rural roots.

It was a great start for a terrific interview.

*          *          *

First, let’s begin with an overused phrase, but one that is most appropriate. Alexis Fawx is a woman who knows what she wants and has a blast accomplishing it in every phase of her life.

The over-thirty superstar comes equipped with a dynamic personality and a world view that is inviting and invigorating. Armed with an intelligence that empowers her career, Alexis’s confidence and electric energy have served her well in her five years in adult entertainment.

Working Together

Raised in “a small middle-class family,” Alexis didn’t have a long-term plan of what she wanted to do. Nevertheless, she did get a formal education highlighted by a degree in psychology. Anatomy was her specialty.

“I love how the mind and body work together,” she says, because “that is about life.”

Later when Alexis moved to Florida, that mind-body thing stayed with her. She became “a licensed massage therapist,” she states, with a reminder that “massage is all about that mind and body connection.”

No doubt it has benefited her in porn. When working with her “co-stars” Alexis is “able to be in tune with” bodies and reactions when shooting. It “all transcends together,” she states.

Her professional career has not always been rewarding, however. Alexis worked as a paralegal but found it wanting.

“It was so structured, it was really making me unhappy. I think some people need that structure and they thrive really well. I’m not one of those people. I’m really creative. So, I need that space to do it.”

The popular MILF performer goes on to say that her adult career is a perfect fit for her.

“It has empowered me as a woman” Alexis adds with a smile. “I love what I do. I’m just taking my passions and really enjoying life.”

Five Years in Adult

Nommed for ANV’s MILF Performer of the Year, Alexis elaborates on where she is in her career.

“I have a comedy show that I produce and host. I’m coming out with my own coffee beans. I’m able to take my passions and things that I really truly love and turn them into a money making machine.”

Of course, add to that shooting scenes and camming. This is a busy woman!

Yet Alexis uses her self-awareness–nurtured by spending time alone–to energize her life.

“If you’re always working on your inner self, the things around you become better. If you’re healing the inside of you . . .  then you’re healing people because you’re approaching things in a totally different way.”

Alexis goes on to talk about the destructiveness of anxiety and how best to tackle it to strengthen “your state of mind.” For her the key is to recognize if the situation causing anxiety is even “real.”

“We sometimes just worry about shit that doesn’t even exist. If it’s not real then stop worrying about it because it doesn’t matter.”

Boy, if it were only that easy.

A Career Start

After she served in the military, Alexis lived in South Florida, as we mentioned, where she worked “around the clock [for] somebody else’s dream.”

After quitting a job she considered to be a dead end, Alexis checked out Craigslist for a way to supplement her income and the rest is history, as they say.

She explains.

“They had an ad to be an extra for Dancing Bear. It happened to be the same studio as Bang Bros.”

When she showed  up, she says, “they gave me a laundry list of things to make more money if you wanted to do it. Got to blowjob [and] I raised my hand without even thinking.”

They offered her the scene and she decided to go after it.

“I was like ‘I guess I’m gonna give a blowjob on camera. Okay I better do my best!’” she laughs.

There is an Alexis Fawx lesson here. We’ll let her nail it for you.

“If you start just saying ‘yes’ to opportunities, it really opens up a lot of doors. If I never said ‘yes’ to that opportunity right there, I wouldn’t be sitting here today.”

The Red-Headed Stepchild

Bearing in mind that Alexis remains a girl-girl contract star with Mile High Media (she has her first girl-girl showcase with them coming soon), I’m interested to know her feelings about crossing over into mainstream film. Is it possible for porn people to make it in Hollywood?

“I think there’s a lot of stigma that we’re still gonna have to get through,” she begins. But times are changing. “More people talk about it, people are more open about it,” but “I think there’s still a lot to work to do.”

For Alexis, the stigma, though unfortunately relevant, is insulting.

“Until we’re not the red-headed stepchild anymore and really taken seriously,” progress is going to be slow, she implies. But her upbeat attitude never gives up. Alexis looks forward to the day when people look past the denigrating porn trope of “just spread your legs, how do you dare have a brain?’”

To make matters more annoying, the prejudice goes beyond the studios. “Right now, not even mainstream actors take us seriously,” she says.

“We have some phenomenal actors in the industry because there are people with talent that get overshadowed because this (porn) is their life. [It’s] how they make their money so their singing or dancing, or whatever the fuck it may be, gets overshadowed.”

Sometimes all that is needed is someone to take notice. Alexis references her comedy show when she says,

“Maybe they (porn performers) don’t have the avenue, maybe they can’t get on stage.”  But she’ll offer them the opportunity.

“Hey, come, reach out to me, I’ll put you on stage,” she says, all smiles.

Best of all, her show is in Hollywood.

“You never know who’s sitting in the audience,” Alexis Fawx comments, “you never know who’s gonna be walking around that day and decide to come to my show and be sitting in there and be like ‘Oh wow, this person has a great voice, I wanna connect with them.’”

It’s all about faith and opportunity, just like the mind-body connection insists.

AEE 2019: AINews Reports from the Show, Part 1

by Rich Moreland, February 2019

This is the first of two installments highlighting the 2019 Adult Entertainment Expo (aka the AVN Show) in Las Vegas. Our team circulated on the floors of the hosting venue, the Hard Rock Hotel, networked where we could, and conducted interviews to get an in-depth look at the porn industry today.

So far, we’ve reported on Evil Angel’s thirtieth anniversary and Nina Hartley’s thirty-fifth. We’ve also taken a look at how the show reflected the changes in our culture.

A pair of talented visual artists, still photographer Kevin Sayers and videographer/filmmaker Davyana San Miguel, provided the visual energy that graces these articles.

         *          *          *

Is there love between AVN and the cam world?

If the last few years at the Adult Entertainment Expo is any indication, the porn world is experiencing an internal evolution.

That’s right, things are changing because the new kid on the block—the cam girl (and boy)—is altering the landscape of what defines porn, at least the commercialized version.

First, a little in-house geography. For those of you who have never visited the Hard Rock Hotel, the “floor” is divided among four major venues, three devoted to the on-screen industry and one to novelties.

A walk around the environs reveals that cammers are more evident than ever before. Not only do they have their own booths and tables inside the show rooms, they dominate the hallways that connect them.

That raises interesting questions. Are cam girls the newest version of porn girls?

Do cammers believe they are creating pornographic content when they perform for their fans and sell their shoots online? If that seems obvious to you, it isn’t to everyone and “therein lies the rub.” (my apologies for the well-worn misquote of Shakespeare)

Are cammers open to shooting for studios in a scripted environment?  It’s certainly outside their comfort zone where they interact with fans unencumbered by directors, cinematographers, and their crews.

And, how do the established porn stars—the studio moneymakers—regard cammers? Do the stars also cam as a way to build their brand?

In the interviews we did for Adult Industry News, I posed these questions. Answers varied, as you might expect, and we will look at some of them in later posts.

For now, here’s what we encountered during our meanderings about the premises.

Something for Everyone

The cammers greet fans in the hallways . . .

. . . And in the rooms! They seem to be everywhere armed with their connection to the fan world: their computer.

Cammers are not restricted by agents, you see. As a result, they are on their own to mix and mingle.

As a contrast, let’s take a few snapshots of porn’s traditional studios and the well-known stables that supply the talent.

The Agency Booths

We stop at the booths of a couple of modeling agencies I’ve dealt with in the past. At Foxxx Modeling, a brief chat with some girls we’ve already interviewed kicks off the afternoon.

The sexy Scarlett Mae.

The sultry Emma Hix.

And the perky BDSMer Emori Pleezer.

Nearby over at John Stevens’ Matrix Models, we find one of my favs in the biz, Vanna Bardot. Kevin and I met her recently on a Girlfriends Films shoot.

Porn’s Commercial Tradition

Then it’s on to the studios, the heavy hitters of porn. First is Adult Time, Bree Mills’ venue where . . .

. . . I renew old acquaintances with three of porn superstars, all of whom are up for AVN awards. We set up interviews to explore new topics we’ve not talked about before.

Tommy Pistol, one of adult’s finest male actors.

The popular Derrick Pierce whose on-screen personality is in high demand.

Then we have the talented Casey Calvert, a longtime friend. (It’s generational with our schedule making, as you can see. She’s electronic, I’m old school with my pen as we discuss arrangements!)

And a new contact, the luscious and award-winning Kenna James who later gives our team a terrific interview!

And, of course, Bree is there. We had interviewed her earlier in the day.

Other stops include Evil Angel where Katrina Jade is signing for fans.

And Jules Jordan where we pause a few moments with model Emily Willis.

Moving on to Greg Lansky Media, a rip-roaring booth pulsing with club music that engulfed the hall, we pick up a couple of conversations there.

We didn’t forget to take a quick look at the AVN booth (it’s their show, after all!) where a variety of girls were signing each day.

After some searching, we finally locate Sofie Marie, a girl (or MILF, depending on your point of view) who shoots for studios AND maintains her cam site. Later she gives us a terrific interview.

Before wrapping up our mini-tour of the rooms, we visit The Lair.

It’s sponsored by Kink.com, the leading BDSM porn producer in the business. Since the fan has to go upstairs to see the The Lair, there is the undeniable connection to Kink’s popular website, The Upper Floor.

And, as is the habit at AEE, an after-hours party for fans who want to pay for the privilege is offered.

Mostly, The Lair is a quiet respite from the clamor of the show floors. It’s vendors mostly with a demonstration here and there. For BDSM enthusiasts, it’s somewhat of a letdown unless the fan wants to shop .

Veterans

For anyone who writes in the porn biz, there is the “go-to” interviewer (and this is not to diminish any writer presently working). By “go-to” I mean the guy who sets the table for the basics about a performer. In other words, bio facts, personal preferences, shooting history, and the like. Everything that helps a girl build her fan base and gets the rest of us thinking about what we want to ask her.

He is “Captain Jack” and I have the privilege of meeting him after all these years.

Speaking of those in the industry who’ve been around the block a few times, our team briefly greets Evan Stone and has a short talk with Katie Morgan. No interviews this time around due to time and the hectic pace of the show. Maybe next year.

Then there is a new face and an old friend. For the first time, I make the acquaintance of Prinzzess Felicity Jade, a Girlfriends Films superstar, and update personal news with now retired performer, Daisy Layne.

Blended or Separated?

So, where does our brief tour leave us? For sure, the line between camming and shooting scenes is blurred. Take shooting, for example.

Today, the trend is make your own. Everyone, porn vets and cammers, can produce and manage their own content. After all, that’s what the fan wants . . . easy access just a click away.

There’s an old standby, Clips4Sale . . .

. . . And a newbie in the mix, Iwantclips.

At a convention that for decades touted video tapes and performer meet-and-greets, today cammers and studios play side-by-side. With Greg Lansky’s Vixen, Tushy, and Blacked responding to fans on the left of the picture below while the cammers’ ManyVids draws a crowd on the right, what does that tell us about 2019?

Well, maybe a solid “spank” in between to get our attention about a changing industry!

Peaceful Co-Existence?

In our next post, we’ll move to the novelties part of AEE 2019.

Sarah Vandella: Open to it All

by Rich Moreland, November 2018

This is the final installment of my day with Dan O’Connell. The older woman/younger woman theme of the shoot that afternoon paired Sarah Vandella’s porn maturity with Elsa Jean’s  youthful appeal.

Much to my pleasure, Sarah put aside some time to chat about her career and the importance of seasoned performers in adult film.

All photos are credited to Kevin Sayers.

*          *          *

In the world of adult film, veteran performers are a treasure. Any girl who has shot for over a decade is wise to the tricks of the trade and has incredible staying power. Best of all, she knows how to keep her brand fresh and exciting.

With those thoughts in mind, meet the lovely Sarah Vandella, a pure delight.

On a beautiful fall afternoon, Sarah and I took a few minutes before her scene with Girlfriends Films’ director Dan O’Connell to discuss a subject that permeates porn today: the rise of the cam girl and what that means for the industry as we’ve known it for the last two decades.

Before getting into Sarah’s opinions and insights, a little background info is appropriate.

Born in the early 1980s, Sarah’s parents blessed her with a spontaneous, easygoing attitude that influenced her adolescent years. When adulthood greeted her, the sex industry appeared on Sarah’s agenda. She worked in a porn shop at twenty-one and was dancing at twenty-two.

This engaging beauty shot her first scene in 2007 at the age of twenty-four.

Older, Powerful Woman

We talk about being an over-thirty performer, the MILF image, if you will, by porn standards.

“Since I have entered my thirties, my sex drive and desire has grown into a new area,” Sarah begins. “I’m definitely more open-minded when it comes to certain things than I was in my twenties. Once you have a little experience coming into your thirties, you’re just adding to your resume in terms of being an actress.”

Does this evolution create a better performer?

“I definitely think that women in their thirties can be considered better performers. However, there are some incredibly sexually attuned ladies in their twenties that make just as great performers.

“There’s definitely something to be said for a woman with a little more experience.”

She amplifies her comments by suggesting that an older, powerful woman is pretty sexy, citing the “step mom thing” (a version of MILF) as one of porn more popular taboos.

The New Porn Girls

The conversation shifts to cam girls. Are they the new porn girls?

Sarah’s reaction reflects what I’ve heard from a couple of directors.

“To take any average cam girl and try to turn her into a superstar won’t work,” she says. But the daughter of liberal parents concedes that there are exceptions who have done some “mainstream porn stuff,”, commenting that “the cam girls that turn into performers are the special ones.”

But shooting for studios is demanding and not for everyone.

“I don’t feel that just any basic cam girl can overnight or over a year’s time become the next Ginger Banks. I don’t find that to be reasonable.” [Ginger Banks is a webcam model who produces her own porn vids]

The native New Yorker goes on to say that these girls “have a built-in fan base” and are “available to their fans” online, of course. As a result, some have reached porn star status. “They make their own videos and have them available on their sites.”

Sarah quickly adds a personal note. “I wouldn’t call myself a cam girl because I never cammed until I was a porn star.” Now she does cam “on occasion,” this blonde stunner says.

Intimacy and Connection

Has camming changed the adult business?

“First of all, porn has changed, as you know. We don’t have adult stores anymore. Distributors are dying. Everything is online now. Thank God for fans who still support the websites,” Sarah says.

Technology has forced the adult business to reposition itself. Where does the cam girl fit into this new business model?

“Cam girls provide a certain level of intimacy and connection that not every porn girl has. When you’re camming you’ve got to open yourself to conversation, to sex play, to help instruction, to be that all-around fantasy girl. Porn stars aren’t available to their fans that way.”

As we’ve suggested, camming is much different from shooting video, right?

“Absolutely,” Sarah says. But there is a positive in camming. Fans have high expectations for online models, she points out, and that pressures established porn performers to “keep up with these girls who are giving these fans so much attention.”

To emphasize response, Sarah explains the cam girl advantage.

“They’re just so easily accessible. They’ve made it their priority. I really admire a lot of them, truly. I think they’re hard working girls. They keep their schedule; they never flake. They can’t afford to. It’s their show, their name and their brand, and also their income.

Waiting on Dan.

Empowerment

I suggest that camming may be the ultimate empowerment. Sarah concurs, but insists that camming “can be brutal, just like being a dancer,” the other job that cultivates the personal touch.

From her perspective, it’s not easy dealing with the grind of her three entertainment personas—part time dancer, film actress, and sex worker—Sarah says. However, through it all rewards do show up.

“There’s days when you get to the club and nobody wants a dance from you. Nobody cares that you do porn. Those days are rough. Then you get that one guy who is your biggest fan and he buys ten dances from you and it makes your night.”

It mirrors the online girl’s experience, she believes.

“Much like camming, you can be sitting there in your little room and waiting and waiting. You’re beautiful and you’re ready to go and time keeps on ticking until the next day, and that’s your lucky day.”

This well-established porn model offers one more thought.

“Like we said a few minutes ago camming is the ultimate empowerment in terms of being in control of your finances because you don’t need a studio, you don’t need an agent. You don’t need to get in your car and drive anywhere. It costs you nothing to put make-up on and put on a cute outfit and get your toys ready.”

All in all, she concludes, “I feel a lot of these cam girls are hustlers and want to make their money while they can. They’re smart about it. Those girls never quit and I really admire that.”

Get a Little Messier

Finally, how does Sarah maintain her on-screen freshness because sometimes porn is a yawner in its repetitiveness?

“Indeed. It sure is,” she responds, then describes her formula for success.

“I keep pushing myself and my boundaries as a performer as long as I’m comfortable with them. So, maybe going a little harder, a little rougher, different positions, or going in the opposite direction and being more sensual and connecting more with my partner. Giving that softer side.

“We continuously switch it up and push ourselves in all directions so we’re never doing the same thing.”

I joke about creative oral sex and Sarah comments with humor, “A blow job is still a blow job, but you can do a seductive blow job and a not very seductive blow job.”

Spoken like a true veteran.

“I think that when a girl keeps pushing her boundaries, she tries to go a little harder,” Sarah adds. “Maybe she tries to deep throat a little more, get a little messier with it. As long as you’re showing genuine interest and desire to be there on-set, that’s the key [to staying fresh].

“Yes, oral sex can be repetitive. But if it’s a Riley Reid or a Maddy O’Reilly, you want to keep seeing their new scenes because it’s so fucking hot and you love it,” Sarah notes with appreciative excitement.

What is in her future porn-wise?

“I really admire ladies like Julia Ann and Lisa Ann who have put their time into the business. They have evolved with age.

“So, you never know. I’m open to it all. I would love to have a movie deal, do feature work and/or gonzo. I’m a lifer. I never want to stop,” Sarah proclaims with her dimpled smile that I’m certain her fans have come to love.

Elsa Jean enjoying the afternoon while waiting for her shoot with Sarah.

Reagan Foxx: I Know What I’m Doing

by Rich Moreland, November 2018

The following conversation with Reagan Foxx was part of my day on the set with Dan O’Connell of Girlfriends Films. For the storyline of his shoot, Dan paired performers in an “older woman/young girl” formula.  As the mature woman in her scene, Reagan was teamed with nineteen-year-old Vanna Bardot.

Dan’s scenes are known for a loving softer touch. Likewise, the set is refreshing in its beauty and tranquility.

All photos are credited to Kevin Sayers.

*          *          *

Talking with MILF performers is special because they are rare. For a girl to stay in porn well into her thirties and forties is unusual. However, Reagan Foxx challenges that norm. Because she is relatively new to porn, this forty-something brings a fresh and insightful perspective to the business.

Know What I’m Doing

When we settle into our interview, I suggest that maturity makes for a good porn performer. In other words, is there an advantage in being an older woman?

Reagan takes an unexpected approach to the question. Rather than talking strictly sexual desire, she ventures into what a performer values from her work. In her case, it’s a set of priorities.

“I’m not spending my money on frivolous things. I know exactly what I’m doing. I know where my money going. Maybe that’s a difference with the younger people, I don’t know.

“I want to have some friends and go out to dinner. But I don’t hang out every weekend with everyone. So, my goals, I think, are a little bit different. When I get on set, I know exactly what I want to do, and I want to leave [when I’m finished].”

It’s a profession?

“Correct,” Reagan responds. “It’s a job. That’s all it is.”

A Little Background

Reagan Foxx has a path to success that is rooted in her background.

Born in Illinois, she is an only child who spent her adolescence in Kentucky. Reagan attended Milligan College in Tennessee, a Christian school. The focus of disciplined responsibility and going for what you want was established early in her life.

What is more striking is this: Reagan didn’t get involved in adult film until recently. Doing her first camming out of her Arizona home in 2011, she shot her first porn scene in 2016 for Forbidden Fruit Films.

On the other hand, this lovely brunette has a swinger reputation that is a bit overblown, apparently.

“My friends are all swingers, but I am the poser of the group,” she chuckles.

Reagan admits she hangs around the fringes of the lifestyle but, she says, “It was honestly never my thing. I was once a part of it. And now just my friends are.”

My Free Cams

What is Reagan’s take on the question “Is the cammer the new porn performer?”

“That’s what I’m hearing,” she replies. When it comes to their websites, performers are gravitating “more to content trade and putting it out and making your own money,” she believes.  “So, it does seem like that,” Reagan affirms, and references My Free Cams as integral to the success of many adult stars.

Though her career is just getting off the ground, Reagan is no stranger to the AVN trade show. In the past, she’s attended mainly for the parties connected to the swinging lifestyle sometimes associated with porn.

“I’ve actually been to AVN probably ten, twelve years, but recently I went in as a cam girl. The last two years I’ve gone for the porn sites, so I’ve seen a big change regarding My Free Cams. They are a huge sponsor now.”

In Reagan’s opinion, that’s important because “when they give out the awards for best porn people, they’re also integrating in best cam star so you definitely are seeing the cam world kind of coming in [to prominence].”

Fan Base

Since Reagan has transitioned from camming to porn, what does she think about moving in the opposite direction from porn to camming?

“That’s a good question. My fan base—I have some super fans—have come from the cam world. If I hadn’t gotten into porn, they would have stayed with me [as a cammer]. The girls that are doing porn and go into camming, they bring that fan base, too.

“I do feel that now when I occasionally do cam, I get more people coming into my room.”

And, that room is vital because of its intimacy.

“I enjoy camming because to me it lets the fan base see who I am. Personality is huge. When they see your personality, they gravitate towards you.”

There’s  an advantage when porn girls start camming, Reagan points out. It lets “the guys see them every day. They build that relationship. Sometimes they fall for the girl. They want to truly know what’s happening in that girl’s life. The camming provides that. It has the more personal touch.”

From Room to Room

Before she made the leap into camming, Reagan needed to learn some things.

“I started looking around before I actually cammed. I would go from room to room and I would just see girls on their phone. [Some] wouldn’t talk [to the fans]. I wasn’t that girl. As soon as I came on that first day, I was talking, sharing stories, whatever, drinking, having fun. That’s the way to go.”

As camming has matured, the girls have learned their trade.

“Now you can see the girls when they cam, they are much more personal,” Reagan says.

I point out that DVDs include BTS (Behind the Scenes) segments so that porn girls can offer an inside look into the business for their fans, but it comes without real interaction.

“Right. They [the fans] don’t see that [personal] side [of the girls]. But now that things are changing, you [can] do Snapchat every day.

“They do get to see a part of your life. But you have to continue to keep drawing them in.”

Reagan takes a moment to remark about how camming is hard work, especially if you are a parent.

“If you have kids,” she begins, “you’re constantly taking down your camera and pulling your toys out, then hiding your toys [while trying to] figure out what you’re going to do.

“There’s a lot of times where I’d be so stressed out because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. What’s my goal? When am I going to take off my clothes? How much money do I need so I can do this show? You’re constantly thinking about it.”

Above all, however, bringing good cheer to your fans regardless of your circumstances is vital.

“[When] you get online, you’ve got to have your A game. I’ve been online so many times where I was upset or depressed. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.”

She emphasizes that if you can’t make it happen that day, then stay offline.

Empowerment

Is cam work empowering?

“I never thought about camming being empowerment,” Reagan comments. “But when I danced twenty-five, thirty years ago, I thought that was empowering.”

After a pause, she agrees camming might be.

“I’ve never thought of it that way. Why not? Why wouldn’t it be?”

Then Reagan mentions a nagging doubt she faces when she’s online.

“My problem is that I’m too sympathetic. Therefore, when the guys come to me with all their problems, I kind of burden myself with [them]. So, it wasn’t empowering to me. I never took it that way.”

What’s Next for Porn?

In closing our talk, I ask Reagan where she believes the porn industry is headed. Shoots are getting pretty hard-edged, what can be next?

For this popular MILF, it’s enough to handle what’s already here.

“Everyone wants me to do anal and I’m looking at what’s being put out there. That’s just not me. I don’t want to bend over and spread and push and have it look like a party. There are girls that want to do that. Push the envelope.”

However, it does increase their popularity with fans, she admits.

Understandable, but where does the industry go from here?

“That’s a great question that goes right back to camming, that personal touch these men and women are seeking,” Reagan says. “I have noticed more porn girls are now camming and now certain sites will have their own porn star section.”

Perhaps rather than saying the cam girl is taking over porn, Reagan indicates it may be that the porn girl is taking over camming.

Finally, considering all the competition in porn, what does Reagan think makes her unique?

“I don’t know. Maybe because I am older. Maybe you can converse with me a little bit easier. Maybe because I have a lot of knowledge and I’m a ton of fun,” she beams.

Her fans can definitely get on board with that!

Wrapping up the day.

A Naughty Hardbody: Sofie Marie, Part One

by Rich Moreland, April 2018

I discovered Sofie Marie by accident through twitter. One look convinced me this sexy honey is one exceptional woman in a sometimes cookie-cutter industry.

Hoping to get an interview, I contacted her. Sofie was gracious and the result is a three-part post on this blog.

She is refreshing . . . and we welcome her here!

Because I was unable to attend this year’s Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, I missed out on a new (to me) performer I’d put on my radar. Her name is Sofie Marie and she’s more than special, she’s unique. At thirty-seven, the hardbody is creating her own space in porn that puts her leagues ahead of the typical baby-faced newbie who’ll be shot out in six months.

First, a little background on this beautifully sculpted girl compliments of Captain Jack at Adult DVD Empire. (You can read his entire interview with Sofie here )

With an athletic physique that is the real deal, the former volleyball player is an endurance athlete with a resume that includes an Ironman triathlon. Her trainer? Her husband, who just happens to be a four-time Ironman competitor himself. More on this in a later post.

Sofie’s five-ten frame lends itself to a svelte, sexy look that has molded her into a stunner with brains to match. Make no mistake, this babe is blessed with the right DNA and a smile to die for. It’s no stretch to imagine that displaying her physical treasures gives her a natural high.

Oh, one more thing. Sofie Marie offers us an interesting spin on her readiness for the adult biz. Her husband introduced her to the “swinger” community in L.A, her home town. Sofie went from partying to online porn, an obvious fit for a girl who uses her assets to the max!

We’ll also explore this later.

For now, I was able to follow-up with Sofie on some of what Captain Jack mentioned. My thanks to her and let’s get started!

A Naughty Side

First, I ask Sofie to define her brand.

“Sofie Marie is not your typical porn actress,” she begins, speaking of herself in terms of the brand.

“Since I am lean and all natural, I am truly the tall girl next door who has a naughty side.”

Sounds good, but how does that translate into being a cam girl? In other words, how does Sofie separate herself from the overwhelming number of worldwide cammers?

It’s in the loyalty of her fan base.

“I am just me which is genuine, goofy, fun, and sexy,” she proclaims, then gathers those endearing traits into an easy-going, but enticing image of “a naughty girl” that seduces the camera.

“I work hard to give my fans a great show so they will come back for more.”

When I mention that the cam girl might be the new porn girl, a point we’ll look at shortly, Sofie is on board with the idea.

“I think that camming is a great way to meet and interact with fans from whatever genre the girl or guys want to promote.”

Sofie believes that cam work builds that personal touch that’s been missing in porn for so long. You can see why. Just a moment’s interaction with her tells us she has a personality so affable it’s more than suited for cam work.

Nothing Rough

What is on the horizon for Sofie and how can she avoid being overshot, the fate of so many girls who enter porn? After all, she’s been at this for a while.

Sofie starts off by recounting her resume.

“I have produced over 180 clips and videos so far and I have over 450 photo galleries on my website.  I have done over twenty mainstream porn scenes from solo, B/G, G/G, BGG, and one orgy, but not all of those scenes have been released yet.”

From what I can glean from checking out Sofie online (disclaimer here: I’ve never been on set for one of her shoots) she has the feel of a gonzo girl who has left vulgar, nasty and trashy at the studio door.

Rather, she’s fun-loving in a way that let’s her tap into a fan base hungry for that type of entertainment.

Perhaps one day features may be in Sofie’s future and she understands how to get there.

“I am a former pro athlete, so I am very competitive, but I don’t have an acting background, so I practice so I can be the best performer I can be!”

To her credit, Sofie has her personal limits and does not try to sell an image that doesn’t reflect what she is about. In other words, she’s comfortable with how she is presented on-screen.

There is no rough sex (slapping, gagging, spitting, deep throating) in her films.

“Not for me,” she declares and adds that moving forward in the business is a series of personal choices that dictates what a girl will do. To phrase it another way, everything “depends on the image you want to portray,” she says.

What Sofie Marie proves is this: a fan base is not dependent on following the crowd.

IR

One more point is worth making here. In standing by the choices she makes, Sofie joins a handful girls in porn who chart their own career. As I’ve written in the past, it’s the industry’s version of feminism.

However, don’t think this very smart woman does not understand the shooting demands of the business. She knows how to respond to them.

“According to my Adult Empire page,” Sofie says, “after ‘Cougar Orgy,’ my fans love my IR scenes”

Black/white porn is more popular today than ever before, but the taboo barriers still exist, though they are not what they once were. That is not a bad thing, by the way, because their presence insures the popularity of interracial shoots.

We always like what is forbidden. For porn, when blacks on blondes becomes just another boy/girl shoot, things will really border on the mundane!

That’ll never happen with Sofie. Our girl is good to go with IR and she’ll drive her naughtiness meter to ever higher levels with each shoot.

When pressed about her scene partners, Sofie doesn’t hold back.

“I see people as individuals not as part of a group,” she states, which opens her up to any shooting possibility.

Of course, there are the aesthetics. “I love the color contrast of the IR shoots, and I do love a big cock!!”

Her attitude is right on target and Sofie Marie is cultivating a career headed for porn stardom at an age when most girls are shot out and retired, sometimes involuntarily.

“Since I have a unique look, I will not likely be over exposed, even if I wanted to be!!”

You bet. Sofie’s candid spontaneity graces her on-screen presence and her classical features are rarely found in porn. Think of her this way, in Athens 2600 years ago, Sofie would have been immortalized in marble.

Anal Anyone?

What are Sofie’s thoughts about broadening her repertoire of sex acts?

“I may do anal in the future, but not now,” she asserts, knowing that a girl doesn’t want to jump into everything at once.

But I strongly suspect her fans are patiently awaiting that decision, so our honey ought to be getting out the toys she loves so much to prep for the big (pun intended) day!

Oh, one more thing. Waving another carrot for her followers, Sofie purrs,

“I am considering some group sex scenes for my site.”

Throw that together with Black dudes and a little anal, and Sofie Marie has a winning formula, should she want it.
