Sofie Marie: Part One, Girl in Charge

by Rich Moreland, May 2019

Talking with Sofie Marie is always a pleasure because she is a mature, professionally-driven adult entertainer who is incredibly sexy.

One of the things that makes Sofie stand out is her affection for the swinging lifestyle. I wanted to find out how that avenue of her sexual lifestyle factors into her porn career.

Let’s see what she has to say.

(All photos are courtesy of Sofie Marie)

Sheltered

First tell us how you got involved with swinging.

“When I met my now husband, he had to tell me what a swinger was because I had no idea! I was very sheltered,” Sofie begins. The idea of sexually experimenting with other people fascinated her, but she needed a spark to kindle her fire. That came via a video production.

“I saw a hot music video with lots of sexy girls in lingerie running around at a party. I really wanted to go to a party like that, so we did . . . a swinger party, and I was hooked!”

I’ve talked with porn girls who dabble in swinging and they’ve told me about their personal guidelines for the sex they have. Does Sofie have any of her own?

She does. When “playing” with other swingers, be they singles or couples, Sofie says, “I have to have a connection and like the people. I have never been a random sex person, so the personal connection is key.”

Having said that, she points out, “sex for me is just fun!” It becomes emotional when “it’s with my husband.”

And, the statuesque California babe wants it real and sends a message to her play partners. “I prefer bareback sex, so please be fourteen-day STD tested because condoms are the only other way we can play.”

Girls are in Charge

Next, give us an inside look at swinging. What are some of its dynamics?

Sophie explains the scene.

“Girls are one hundred percent in charge in the lifestyle. The men who survive in swinging let the girls drive the program.”

In the end, “bossy men are weeded out pretty quickly” and it’s important that girls should “never take one for the team, as we say,” she adds.

By the way, girls who are interested in other girls proliferate in the lifestyle, so “that is the best ice breaker,” Sophie remarks. Swinging is most rewarding when the girls are “confident in themselves and enjoy the attention.”

To clarify how important that is, Sofie insists that “when you wake up the next morning you should be smiling and basking in the experience of sex, not cringing and wishing it didn’t happen. Never have any regrets!”

Sex in Front of People

Compared with a porn set, what’s it like to have sex in front of an audience?

“It’s harder to be watched by onlookers than a porn crew,” Sofie states. They are “focused on their job and generally detached from the sex they are shooting.”

(Sofie is spot on about this. From personal experience, I can tell you her words apply to industry journalists, as well.)

On the other hand, Sofie comments that “swingers are like kids in a candy store. They are watching for sexual pleasure!”

That suits our MILF hottie just fine, by the way.

“I like having sex in front of people because it’s fun to see them looking at the scene.  I wonder what they may be thinking, and sometimes I will ask them to join in the fun!!”

Of course, swinging means having sex with people who don’t necessarily throw their bodies out there for public consumption. What problems might come out of this?

Sofie replies that swinging can present interpersonal challenges that she doesn’t find with porn or camming.

“From swinging, I have had to deal with the awful feelings of jealousy. The dreaded green monster is usually the destruction of most relationships.”

That’s understandable, of course, since Sofie is married.

“From the very beginning of my relationship with my husband, we have discussed the root causes of jealousy,” she explains, and the “insecurity” it fosters.

“By focusing on trust, respect, and honesty in my marriage, I have seen my fears dissipate and my sexual energy increase. I have come to see that any jealously I felt was due to my feelings of adequacy versus the actions of my spouse, so now I love watching him as much as he likes watching me.”

Talking about her husband stimulates her juices. “Wow, I am really wet now!” she says with a broad smile.

Sarah Vandella: Open to it All

by Rich Moreland, November 2018

This is the final installment of my day with Dan O’Connell. The older woman/younger woman theme of the shoot that afternoon paired Sarah Vandella’s porn maturity with Elsa Jean’s  youthful appeal.

Much to my pleasure, Sarah put aside some time to chat about her career and the importance of seasoned performers in adult film.

All photos are credited to Kevin Sayers.

In the world of adult film, veteran performers are a treasure. Any girl who has shot for over a decade is wise to the tricks of the trade and has incredible staying power. Best of all, she knows how to keep her brand fresh and exciting.

With those thoughts in mind, meet the lovely Sarah Vandella, a pure delight.

On a beautiful fall afternoon, Sarah and I took a few minutes before her scene with Girlfriends Films’ director Dan O’Connell to discuss a subject that permeates porn today: the rise of the cam girl and what that means for the industry as we’ve known it for the last two decades.

Before getting into Sarah’s opinions and insights, a little background info is appropriate.

Born in the early 1980s, Sarah’s parents blessed her with a spontaneous, easygoing attitude that influenced her adolescent years. When adulthood greeted her, the sex industry appeared on Sarah’s agenda. She worked in a porn shop at twenty-one and was dancing at twenty-two.

This engaging beauty shot her first scene in 2007 at the age of twenty-four.

Older, Powerful Woman

We talk about being an over-thirty performer, the MILF image, if you will, by porn standards.

“Since I have entered my thirties, my sex drive and desire has grown into a new area,” Sarah begins. “I’m definitely more open-minded when it comes to certain things than I was in my twenties. Once you have a little experience coming into your thirties, you’re just adding to your resume in terms of being an actress.”

Does this evolution create a better performer?

“I definitely think that women in their thirties can be considered better performers. However, there are some incredibly sexually attuned ladies in their twenties that make just as great performers.

“There’s definitely something to be said for a woman with a little more experience.”

She amplifies her comments by suggesting that an older, powerful woman is pretty sexy, citing the “step mom thing” (a version of MILF) as one of porn more popular taboos.

The New Porn Girls

The conversation shifts to cam girls. Are they the new porn girls?

Sarah’s reaction reflects what I’ve heard from a couple of directors.

“To take any average cam girl and try to turn her into a superstar won’t work,” she says. But the daughter of liberal parents concedes that there are exceptions who have done some “mainstream porn stuff,”, commenting that “the cam girls that turn into performers are the special ones.”

But shooting for studios is demanding and not for everyone.

“I don’t feel that just any basic cam girl can overnight or over a year’s time become the next Ginger Banks. I don’t find that to be reasonable.” [Ginger Banks is a webcam model who produces her own porn vids]

The native New Yorker goes on to say that these girls “have a built-in fan base” and are “available to their fans” online, of course. As a result, some have reached porn star status. “They make their own videos and have them available on their sites.”

Sarah quickly adds a personal note. “I wouldn’t call myself a cam girl because I never cammed until I was a porn star.” Now she does cam “on occasion,” this blonde stunner says.

Intimacy and Connection

Has camming changed the adult business?

“First of all, porn has changed, as you know. We don’t have adult stores anymore. Distributors are dying. Everything is online now. Thank God for fans who still support the websites,” Sarah says.

Technology has forced the adult business to reposition itself. Where does the cam girl fit into this new business model?

“Cam girls provide a certain level of intimacy and connection that not every porn girl has. When you’re camming you’ve got to open yourself to conversation, to sex play, to help instruction, to be that all-around fantasy girl. Porn stars aren’t available to their fans that way.”

As we’ve suggested, camming is much different from shooting video, right?

“Absolutely,” Sarah says. But there is a positive in camming. Fans have high expectations for online models, she points out, and that pressures established porn performers to “keep up with these girls who are giving these fans so much attention.”

To emphasize response, Sarah explains the cam girl advantage.

“They’re just so easily accessible. They’ve made it their priority. I really admire a lot of them, truly. I think they’re hard working girls. They keep their schedule; they never flake. They can’t afford to. It’s their show, their name and their brand, and also their income.

Waiting on Dan.

Empowerment

I suggest that camming may be the ultimate empowerment. Sarah concurs, but insists that camming “can be brutal, just like being a dancer,” the other job that cultivates the personal touch.

From her perspective, it’s not easy dealing with the grind of her three entertainment personas—part time dancer, film actress, and sex worker—Sarah says. However, through it all rewards do show up.

“There’s days when you get to the club and nobody wants a dance from you. Nobody cares that you do porn. Those days are rough. Then you get that one guy who is your biggest fan and he buys ten dances from you and it makes your night.”

It mirrors the online girl’s experience, she believes.

“Much like camming, you can be sitting there in your little room and waiting and waiting. You’re beautiful and you’re ready to go and time keeps on ticking until the next day, and that’s your lucky day.”

This well-established porn model offers one more thought.

“Like we said a few minutes ago camming is the ultimate empowerment in terms of being in control of your finances because you don’t need a studio, you don’t need an agent. You don’t need to get in your car and drive anywhere. It costs you nothing to put make-up on and put on a cute outfit and get your toys ready.”

All in all, she concludes, “I feel a lot of these cam girls are hustlers and want to make their money while they can. They’re smart about it. Those girls never quit and I really admire that.”

Get a Little Messier

Finally, how does Sarah maintain her on-screen freshness because sometimes porn is a yawner in its repetitiveness?

“Indeed. It sure is,” she responds, then describes her formula for success.

“I keep pushing myself and my boundaries as a performer as long as I’m comfortable with them. So, maybe going a little harder, a little rougher, different positions, or going in the opposite direction and being more sensual and connecting more with my partner. Giving that softer side.

“We continuously switch it up and push ourselves in all directions so we’re never doing the same thing.”

I joke about creative oral sex and Sarah comments with humor, “A blow job is still a blow job, but you can do a seductive blow job and a not very seductive blow job.”

Spoken like a true veteran.

“I think that when a girl keeps pushing her boundaries, she tries to go a little harder,” Sarah adds. “Maybe she tries to deep throat a little more, get a little messier with it. As long as you’re showing genuine interest and desire to be there on-set, that’s the key [to staying fresh].

“Yes, oral sex can be repetitive. But if it’s a Riley Reid or a Maddy O’Reilly, you want to keep seeing their new scenes because it’s so fucking hot and you love it,” Sarah notes with appreciative excitement.

What is in her future porn-wise?

“I really admire ladies like Julia Ann and Lisa Ann who have put their time into the business. They have evolved with age.

“So, you never know. I’m open to it all. I would love to have a movie deal, do feature work and/or gonzo. I’m a lifer. I never want to stop,” Sarah proclaims with her dimpled smile that I’m certain her fans have come to love.

Reagan Foxx: I Know What I’m Doing

by Rich Moreland, November 2018

The following conversation with Reagan Foxx was part of my day on the set with Dan O’Connell of Girlfriends Films. For the storyline of his shoot, Dan paired performers in an “older woman/young girl” formula.  As the mature woman in her scene, Reagan was teamed with nineteen-year-old Vanna Bardot.

Dan’s scenes are known for a loving softer touch. Likewise, the set is refreshing in its beauty and tranquility.

All photos are credited to Kevin Sayers.

*          *          *

Talking with MILF performers is special because they are rare. For a girl to stay in porn well into her thirties and forties is unusual. However, Reagan Foxx challenges that norm. Because she is relatively new to porn, this forty-something brings a fresh and insightful perspective to the business.

Know What I’m Doing

When we settle into our interview, I suggest that maturity makes for a good porn performer. In other words, is there an advantage in being an older woman?

Reagan takes an unexpected approach to the question. Rather than talking strictly sexual desire, she ventures into what a performer values from her work. In her case, it’s a set of priorities.

“I’m not spending my money on frivolous things. I know exactly what I’m doing. I know where my money going. Maybe that’s a difference with the younger people, I don’t know.

“I want to have some friends and go out to dinner. But I don’t hang out every weekend with everyone. So, my goals, I think, are a little bit different. When I get on set, I know exactly what I want to do, and I want to leave [when I’m finished].”

It’s a profession?

“Correct,” Reagan responds. “It’s a job. That’s all it is.”

A Little Background

Reagan Foxx has a path to success that is rooted in her background.

Born in Illinois, she is an only child who spent her adolescence in Kentucky. Reagan attended Milligan College in Tennessee, a Christian school. The focus of disciplined responsibility and going for what you want was established early in her life.

What is more striking is this: Reagan didn’t get involved in adult film until recently. Doing her first camming out of her Arizona home in 2011, she shot her first porn scene in 2016 for Forbidden Fruit Films.

On the other hand, this lovely brunette has a swinger reputation that is a bit overblown, apparently.

“My friends are all swingers, but I am the poser of the group,” she chuckles.

Reagan admits she hangs around the fringes of the lifestyle but, she says, “It was honestly never my thing. I was once a part of it. And now just my friends are.”

My Free Cams

What is Reagan’s take on the question “Is the cammer the new porn performer?”

“That’s what I’m hearing,” she replies. When it comes to their websites, performers are gravitating “more to content trade and putting it out and making your own money,” she believes.  “So, it does seem like that,” Reagan affirms, and references My Free Cams as integral to the success of many adult stars.

Though her career is just getting off the ground, Reagan is no stranger to the AVN trade show. In the past, she’s attended mainly for the parties connected to the swinging lifestyle sometimes associated with porn.

“I’ve actually been to AVN probably ten, twelve years, but recently I went in as a cam girl. The last two years I’ve gone for the porn sites, so I’ve seen a big change regarding My Free Cams. They are a huge sponsor now.”

In Reagan’s opinion, that’s important because “when they give out the awards for best porn people, they’re also integrating in best cam star so you definitely are seeing the cam world kind of coming in [to prominence].”

Fan Base

Since Reagan has transitioned from camming to porn, what does she think about moving in the opposite direction from porn to camming?

“That’s a good question. My fan base—I have some super fans—have come from the cam world. If I hadn’t gotten into porn, they would have stayed with me [as a cammer]. The girls that are doing porn and go into camming, they bring that fan base, too.

“I do feel that now when I occasionally do cam, I get more people coming into my room.”

And, that room is vital because of its intimacy.

“I enjoy camming because to me it lets the fan base see who I am. Personality is huge. When they see your personality, they gravitate towards you.”

There’s  an advantage when porn girls start camming, Reagan points out. It lets “the guys see them every day. They build that relationship. Sometimes they fall for the girl. They want to truly know what’s happening in that girl’s life. The camming provides that. It has the more personal touch.”

From Room to Room

Before she made the leap into camming, Reagan needed to learn some things.

“I started looking around before I actually cammed. I would go from room to room and I would just see girls on their phone. [Some] wouldn’t talk [to the fans]. I wasn’t that girl. As soon as I came on that first day, I was talking, sharing stories, whatever, drinking, having fun. That’s the way to go.”

As camming has matured, the girls have learned their trade.

“Now you can see the girls when they cam, they are much more personal,” Reagan says.

I point out that DVDs include BTS (Behind the Scenes) segments so that porn girls can offer an inside look into the business for their fans, but it comes without real interaction.

“Right. They [the fans] don’t see that [personal] side [of the girls]. But now that things are changing, you [can] do Snapchat every day.

“They do get to see a part of your life. But you have to continue to keep drawing them in.”

Reagan takes a moment to remark about how camming is hard work, especially if you are a parent.

“If you have kids,” she begins, “you’re constantly taking down your camera and pulling your toys out, then hiding your toys [while trying to] figure out what you’re going to do.

“There’s a lot of times where I’d be so stressed out because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. What’s my goal? When am I going to take off my clothes? How much money do I need so I can do this show? You’re constantly thinking about it.”

Above all, however, bringing good cheer to your fans regardless of your circumstances is vital.

“[When] you get online, you’ve got to have your A game. I’ve been online so many times where I was upset or depressed. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.”

She emphasizes that if you can’t make it happen that day, then stay offline.

Empowerment

Is cam work empowering?

“I never thought about camming being empowerment,” Reagan comments. “But when I danced twenty-five, thirty years ago, I thought that was empowering.”

After a pause, she agrees camming might be.

“I’ve never thought of it that way. Why not? Why wouldn’t it be?”

Then Reagan mentions a nagging doubt she faces when she’s online.

“My problem is that I’m too sympathetic. Therefore, when the guys come to me with all their problems, I kind of burden myself with [them]. So, it wasn’t empowering to me. I never took it that way.”

What’s Next for Porn?

In closing our talk, I ask Reagan where she believes the porn industry is headed. Shoots are getting pretty hard-edged, what can be next?

For this popular MILF, it’s enough to handle what’s already here.

“Everyone wants me to do anal and I’m looking at what’s being put out there. That’s just not me. I don’t want to bend over and spread and push and have it look like a party. There are girls that want to do that. Push the envelope.”

However, it does increase their popularity with fans, she admits.

Understandable, but where does the industry go from here?

“That’s a great question that goes right back to camming, that personal touch these men and women are seeking,” Reagan says. “I have noticed more porn girls are now camming and now certain sites will have their own porn star section.”

Perhaps rather than saying the cam girl is taking over porn, Reagan indicates it may be that the porn girl is taking over camming.

Finally, considering all the competition in porn, what does Reagan think makes her unique?

“I don’t know. Maybe because I am older. Maybe you can converse with me a little bit easier. Maybe because I have a lot of knowledge and I’m a ton of fun,” she beams.

Her fans can definitely get on board with that!

Wrapping up the day.

Vanna Bardot: The Girl with Braces

by Rich Moreland, November 2018

New girls come and go in porn at what seems at times dizzying speed. A shoot or two and a lot of girls go home never to return to the industry.

Vanna Bardot, on the other hand, is more than the blink of the eye. She’s smart and friendly with a fan base that, I suspect, grows daily.

Interviewing her was more than a pleasure, it was downright fun!

All photos are credited to Kevin Sayers.

*           *           *

On a recent visit to a Girlfriends Films set, I sat down with newcomer Vanna Bardot. Though a mere nineteen, she is wise beyond her years with a killer attitude that spells porn fame.

A camera presence is natural for this slim and spicy girl since artistry is in her DNA. Vanna attended a performing arts high school and was steeped in the rigors of ballet for much of her young life. With adoring audiences always close by, Vanna expanded her on-stage resume. At eighteen she was dancing in Miami clubs and exploring the delights of camming.

By the way, that’s all good with her family. Vanna grew up in a liberal household where self-expression was never stifled.

All of these adventures were a warm-up for the real deal: shooting porn. And boy, is she ready.  With a smile, this petite sweetheart proclaims, “I’ve done a lot of living so far.”

A Broader Market

Rather than delve into the formulaic interview questions every porn girl gets, we talk about Vanna’s career interests. Is filmmaking from the other side of the camera in her future?

“Transitioning from an actress to a director is sparking my imagination now, especially after becoming more familiar with different sets and meeting different directors,” she says.

As Vanna navigates through the industry, her education is expanding.

“I’m taking more time to really watch other people’s work whether it’s on sets or online.”

It’s inspiring she says. “I see things that I really like that fall into my style.”

Vanna does have her opinions on what she sees in the industry, however.

“I would never tell a director how to do their job, of course. But it may happen I see things that could be altered in a way that could be more efficient or more esthetically pleasing.”

That brings me to ask, “What drives porn, director choices or market demand?”

“I think market demand ultimately decides what’s happening,” Vanna replies.

“People want to make money and they want to cater to what people are asking for. But I think we’re coming into a time where a lot of people are starting to shoot the kind of content they want even if people tell them this isn’t going to sell. And those things do end up selling.”

She mentions Spain’s Erika Lust.

“She shoots a lot of porn that caters to LGBT people.”

Vanna believes Lust’s work is “a truer presentation” of porn’s demand because the stereotype that “only old dudes buy porn” is a misconception.

“There’s a much broader market for porn now, especially for younger people, people of different sexualities, gender identities, and race.”

The Bondage Scene

Porn is becoming more diverse and that is particularly true in the fetish arena.

For example, BDSM is popular today. How does Vanna regard the bondage product and does she want to try it?

With eyes brightening, she exclaims, “I want to. That’s what I’m most looking forward to. I really want to shoot for Kink soon. I’ve been kind of waiting to do everything super slowly. But yeah, that’s something I have a really big interest in.”

“What fascinates you about that?” I ask.

Pausing for a moment, the olive-skinned teen says,  “I started watching porn when I was younger. Once I started having my own sexual experiences, it’s something I started to dabble with. The power exchange is great, but I feel in BDSM porn I see real reactions.”

Too often BDSM scenes rely on “frivolous acting” and that hides the reality of authentic bondage pleasures, Vanna asserts.

So, if you’re listening Kink pick up the phone!

The Real Thing

For Vanna’s porn fun, it’s about authenticity, an advantage she believes the amateur porn product has over scripted studio shoots.

Speaking of real porn reactions, I mention that a woman’s sexual desire peaks in her thirties and beyond.

“That actually makes a lot of sense,” Vanna comments.

Perhaps in the future being thirty or forty will be an industry norm. Vanna is on board with that.

“I do think so. In porn, girls fall into only two categories. There is rarely a middle. You’re either a teen or you’re a MILF. Girls as young as twenty-one, if they have big tits, can be cast as MILFs which is crazy.”

She mentions director Greg Lansky, three-time winner of AVN’s Director of the Year.

“What I’ve noticed with Greg Lansky’s work is it’s a lot less teen and MILF. A lot of the women he casts are girls who are women, not necessarily ‘little girl’ and not necessarily ‘I’m your friend’s mom.’”

Vanna believes that there are “girls in their twenties and forties and no girls in their thirties,” or at least it seems that way. For whatever reason, today’s content dictates that “those are usually the characters girls have to play.”

She’s hopeful that “more women in their thirties” will come into porn.

Her remarks lead me to delve into the final questions I have. The first has to do with camming and how that ratchets up the amateur porn universe in the mind of the online customer.

Reagan Foxx and Vanna along with Elsa Jean and Sarah Vandella.

The New Porn Girl

Is the cam girl the new porn girl?

“It’s interesting,” Vanna muses. “I think camming is really taking over the porn world, at least what I hear from a lot of men. They don’t watch [traditional] porn anymore. They like to go on camming websites because they see this girl next door who is camming in her room. Then they can interact with her.

“This is a really big market now and it’s easy for any regular girl to do it. You don’t have to go through this whole process of getting into porn which is very daunting for a lot of young girls.

“So, this idea that you sign up on a website and work from the comfort of your own home appeals to a lot of people.”

However, this self-proclaimed homebody believes that camming presents a major change, like it or not, for girls accustomed to shooting scenes.

“For porn stars, it’s not usually enough to just do porn. A lot of girls do weekly or monthly cam shows because people want to be able to interact with their favorite girls and see them in real-time and not always acting in a role.”

This brings us back to the young girl in porn. Regardless of camming or playing the ‘little girl,’ as Vanna puts it, an amateur product that markets a naïve girl sells well.

I’m interested to know if the young girl image represents a power exchange concept for the viewer, especially if he is an older man.  Does it fit a formula that is easily repeated in amateur shoots?

Vanna is doubtful about that.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily a formula that is going to work because I don’t think everyone enjoys seeing that,” she says.

“It definitely works for a lot of men because they like this idea of preying on a young innocent girl but I think for a lot of other people they’d rather see a more empowered role not necessarily of a girl who doesn’t know what she is doing but a girl who is more eager. She going to find this sexual encounter, or this sexual experience.”

Braces

We should mention that for the present, Vanna’s appeal lies somewhat in her braces. That certainly helps to sell her teen image.

“I still have my braces [which is] something I’ve been able to build my fan base on. It is pretty unique thing that not a lot of people have. I got them really late when I was seventeen, so I still have them.”

For now, they’re very marketable.

“But it’s not something I plan on keeping forever. I don’t want to be twenty-one with braces as much as I’m sure my fans would like it. I’m looking forward to taking them off. But I think it’s a good thing because my fans are kind of growing up with me and can see me turn into a young woman.

And, the future?

“I don’t know how long I’ll be in porn, or if I’ll reach MILF years. But I think it’s going to be good. I think people are going to enjoy seeing me grow up.”

Then this very intelligent sweetheart gives us the feel-good news.

“I’m here because I like sex, I like these sexual experiences, I like to see myself out there.”

Braces and all!

Sofie Marie, Part Three: Hotwife

by Rich Moreland, April 2018

In this final post on Sofie Marie, we’ll look at her on-screen adventures.

*          *          *

For Sofie Marie, her swinging history prompted her move to porn. I’ve interviewed other girls with similar experiences as swingers and wanted to know what Sofie could tell us.

A Hall Pass

“I am doing porn because of swinging or ‘the lifestyle’ (as it is known among its adherents). I am a true Hotwife which means I have a hall pass from my husband to go and explore whatever I want to as long as I am one hundred percent open about my plans and experiences with him. He likes to see and hear about my exploits from me and from Spike,” Sofie says.

From what I’ve learned as a journalist, being absolutely open about everything is the cornerstone of acceptance into the swinging community and the ongoing enjoyment of it.

Sofie’s interview with Adult DVD Talk gives us the back story. Her husband introduced his new wife (they’ve only been married for a couple of years) to the swinger community. “He told me about it and I didn’t have any idea what a ‘swinger’ was,” she tells Captain Jack.

Now husband and wife savor the lifestyle together which means parties and the excitement of hooking up in a consensual atmosphere. Sofie has loved it all, especially the variety of sex partners-in-waiting, an unexpected treat for her.

“We’ve met a lot of great people and I have been with girls through that. That’s where it all began as far as fooling around with other girls,” she beams.

That ongoing adventure of self-discovery became an important step in initiating a porn career.

Sexy Young Guys

Sex for the camera is another story.

Sofie’s photography career began with bikini modeling which, as sometimes happens with porn girls, led to nude work. From there, her exhibitionist tendencies and relishing all things sexual nudged Sofie to take the next logical step: her own website and porn.

Sofie explains to Captain Jack that x-rated shooting is “no big deal” because she enjoys exploring her “sexual boundaries” which includes, no surprise, being naked and revealing her “girl parts.”

Has porn benefited Sofie’s free-wheeling spirit? You bet.

“I have gotten really comfortable in front of the camera. So, being nude or having sex is easy for me with the camera rolling,” she says.

“I am really a shy person and exploring my sexuality and now doing porn has been a great experience.”

From a psychological perspective, exhibitionism is a common trait among porn performers and often counteracts shyness. Sofie’s fans are undoubtedly thankful she has made it work for her.

By the way, Sofie’s age would dictate a career as a MILF, but she’s not really into that. When it comes to shooting, “It’s the job for me to play the MILF,” she comments, “but I like playing the Hotwife better.”

Actually, being a MILF took some getting used to, Sofie declares, because she not a mom in her real life, so the label feels a bit “weird” to her. But it does have its rewards. “I get to have sex with the young sexy guys as a MILF so that’s a bonus for me!”

That’s something all her fans can watch with delight as Sofie redefines “cougar!”

Work Sex

There is something about Sofie Marie that separates her out from the run-of-the-mill porn girl. Though I’ve not had the pleasure of being on one of her sets, as I’ve said, I can infer from the short clips I’ve seen that she is cultivating an image that sets her apart from the crowd.

That is a huge reason for her popularity, I believe.

In talking with performers and directors I’ve been reminded that porn sex is not the type of sex civilians (pornspeak for non-industry people) experience in their everyday lives. What is surprising is this: that goes for porn performers as well who are happy to separate film sex from home sex.

Another way of putting it is this: porn sex is acrobatics that involve contortions and positions that directors insist be held minute after minute to get the footage desired.

As you might expect, performers don’t go home in the evening to their significant others and hang from the chandeliers. Work sex is a business and exhausting enough as it is.

Social scientists and educators tell us that porn, with all its outre positions and hard banging, has become the new sex education for today’s young people.

Sometimes it’s difficult for them to understand that sex is supposed to be enjoyable, intimate, and a mutually shared experience. It doesn’t need to be nasty, rough, or vulgar and doesn’t have to be dominated by deep throating, gagging, choking, tears that smear mascara, and reverse cowgirls (the most graphic position for the camera).

Here is what I mean. Watch Sofie in a girl-on-boy oral scene, for example, and compare her with popular porn performers today. The difference is noteworthy.

Her on-screen sex is instinctive and unpretentious. Without doubt, this is Sofie Marie’s tour de force and why she is destined to luxuriate in the adult industry for as long as she wants. When she proclaims she projects the girl-next-door image, Sofie isn’t kidding or trying to sell her fans a bill of goods. She really is as she appears on-screen and that, in a business that is turning more and more to the bizarre to keep fans energized, is in itself remarkable.

Think of it this way, Sofie communicates her sexuality without saying, “Hey, look at me!” Her scenes are less about her and more about personalizing the sexual experience for the camera. The more natural she is, the easier it becomes for viewers to imagine themselves in the shoot with her.

As I’ve already hinted, Sofie Marie’s shoots explore sex as a spontaneous expression. In other words she reinforces the idea that sexuality as meaningful on a human level. It’s not a superhero cartoon or the perils of Pauline. It’s just us.

There’s no drool, spit, or slobbering when she is performing orally. Dirty talk is subdued, and, she completely turns the porn formula on its head when she fails (forgets?) to point her toes. Those things are not important in her shoots because they are not her. As Sofie keeps telling us, she’s natural . . . and she is a natural.

I could be wrong and if I ever see her in action on set in a way that disputes what I’ve said here, I’ll let you know.

Consent

Not surprisingly, consent is important to Sofie.

“So far I have been treated with respect one hundred percent of the time. I expect nothing else from this industry or I will not shoot with a company who does not respect my time and boundaries,” she proclaims.

For girls to accomplish what Sofie asserts, they must take control of their image just as this statuesque beauty clearly demonstrates in her work. That is a link to feminism she may not know she possesses.

Balancing Act

Finally, I had a couple of questions for Sofie that arose from personal interest. She and I are similar in two ways.

First, I was raised in a conservative evangelical home (Southern Baptist) and didn’t know much about sex growing up other than it was sinful outside of marriage.

I don’t know if Sofie’s childhood attitudes were the same, but she had this to say about her background.

“I, too, was raised in a very religious household and I still maintain my spiritual connection to my faith. But I have come to realize that I am a consenting adult and the people I perform with are adults as well and we are not hurting anyone by having sex.”

She concludes with, “I always try to be kind to others.” A lesson we could all share. Are you listening evangelicals?

The other area Sofie and I have in common is endurance sports, specifically triathlon and marathons. The training is grueling and fatiguing and I can’t imagine having sex on camera in addition to that.

So how does she balance everything out?

“My last Ironman was 2016 so my training has been easier for the past year. My husband and I train together, so when we get our schedules synced, we will likely do another one. But my focus is my career now.

“Yes, it’s hard to a balance business and training . . . business is first for now. I do workout with weights and cardio six times a week, just not as long as when I was training for my Ironman!”

We wish her well with all her loves: racing, on-camera sex, and of course, hubby!

A final note. Sofie Marie did not talk about her fetish performances because regretfully I didn’t ask.

So, for the followers of this blog who like BDSM, I want to assure you Sofie is not shy when the fetish comes her way.

by Rich Moreland, February 2017

This the second post in a series of interviews with Star Factory clients recorded during the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas.

An unexpected delight at this year’s AEE was Briana Banks. Her forthright perspective on the industry highlighted one of the most informative interviews I have done lately.

Before we get into her thoughts, an observation about this year’s show is helpful.

Cam girls are the new porn babes and they are meeting their fans on a personal level right out of their apartments or homes through member-driven online relationships.

What does this mean?

Today’s trade show is changing the way porn does business. Cam fans are physically meeting girls they chat with online rather than seeking out their favorite stars for the first time as often happens when a traditional porn girl shoots for established companies and maintains a website that encourages fan contact via social media.

Of course, there is a shortcoming for the cam girl. Whatever creativity she has is her own adventure, director and crew backed by studio money is nowhere to be found.

Caught in this transition, Briana is working hard to adjust to a new reality while maintaining her traditional porn image.

The first issue we discussed centered on technology.

A More Personal Level

Briana took a five-year hiatus and returning to porn has become a confrontation with change, especially with new delivery platforms continually being developed.

“Technology-wise I feel like I’m starting at the bottom again.” She mentions having to learn about twitter, for example.

2017-01-19-04-27-42-2But things are looking good.

“I’m learning the ropes again,” she says with a smile.

The focal point of Briana’s comeback is her website, brianabanks.xxx (for link, see below). She’s posted a host of recently shot scenes and all new content she knows her fans will appreciate.

Next on her agenda is the webcam. Briana’s already done some camming for other companies, but now she’s on her own and she’s a bit nervous about it.

“I’ve been scared to death because this is new to me. On my site I will be promoting [the times] when I will be doing live webcam so for everyone who’s been asking me, it’s happening.”

“Doing it out of my own house myself is really going to be entertaining for everyone except me.” She laughs.

But like every Chaturbate or myfreecams girl, Briana recognizes the value of the new platform.

“That’s how my fans are going to get on a more personal level [with me],” this curvaceous beauty says.

Another change Briana has to accommodate is how she is marketed. She laments the loss of “glam porn” that features “pretty girls having sex with attractive men.”

Heavily driven by the internet, the industry is in flux, however, and today everything is in subgenres. The “glam” element has receded.

A few years ago, categories were minimal and MILF was sparingly used. But no more and by virtue of her age, MILF is Briana’s subgenre now, though she is not overly thrilled with it.

“I feel as though once you hit twenty-five, it’s MILF. I want to do scenes where there is just sex, I don’t want to be someone’s mom all the time, or doing my husband’s nephew and so on.”

Of course, MILF is part of a totality of subgenres like fetish, IR, girl/girl, gangbangs, blowbangs, bondage, and the like.

To win an award, girls are cast into categories.

Does Briana feel that porn has too many subgenres?

“I do. I think it’s ridiculous that I can’t ever win Performer of the Year, it has to be MILF Performer of the Year.”c5mgbiaxaaq-y3v-jpg-large

What she wants is open opportunity for all female performers without an age restriction, or anything else for that matter.

In other words, every girl should be eligible for that prestigious honor.

“I’m not trying to put anyone down, but some of the best performers are the MILFs, because we’ve been doing that for so long and we know what we are doing and we don’t get the opportunity to win those awards,” Briana explains.

In measuring the success of her comeback, Briana Banks is redefining herself and her brand, finding an exciting new niche in a business that can crush new girls while rewarding the talented performer with a solid fan base.

Experience counts and Briana Banks is among the elite, a rare porn commodity these days when the business is flooded with internet honeys who are often clueless about shooting a good scene.
